A balcony railing is the most under-used growing space in an apartment: it gets the best light on the whole balcony and takes up no floor at all. These round metal holders hook over the rail and hold a pot in a sturdy wire basket, so a bare railing becomes a row of herbs, flowers or trailing plants in a few minutes, with no drilling and no tools.

Where to Use Them
Balcony and deck railings, porch rails, garden fences and the edge of a sturdy raised bed. Indoors, they work on a stair banister or over the edge of a deep shelf. The double hooks fit over rails up to about 2.4" (6 cm) thick. Very wide or rounded handrails may need a different solution.
Which Pots Fit
Each holder is a small wire basket about 7.9" (20 cm) across at the top, 6.1" (15.5 cm) across the base and 4.7" (12 cm) deep, so the pot sits down inside it rather than balancing on a ring. It fits 6- to 8-inch pots; tapered plastic or lightweight resin pots work best. Our self-watering pots are a good match for balconies, where pots dry out quickly in the sun and wind.
Using Them Safely
Hang holders on the inside of the railing, over your own balcony or garden, never over a sidewalk, stairwell or a neighbour's space. Use lightweight pots rather than heavy ceramic, and take plants down or move them inside before storms and high winds.
