Monstera, pothos and philodendron are climbers. In the wild they grow up tree trunks, and indoors, without something to climb, they sprawl sideways and flop over the edge of the pot. A textured pole gives the stems something to lean on and the aerial roots something to grip, and many climbing plants respond with a tidier, more upright shape and, over time, larger leaves.

Shape It to Your Plant
Unlike a rigid stake, these poles bend. Keep one straight for a classic upright monstera, curve it gently to follow a leaning stem, or bend it into an arch or hoop to train a trailing pothos into a fuller shape. Two lengths, approximately 16 and 24 inches, cover most pots from 6 to 10 inches.
How to Use
1. Insert
The best time is when repotting: set the pole close to the main stem and firm the soil around it. For an established plant, push it in gently on the side with the fewest roots.
2. Tie
Attach stems loosely with soft plant ties or garden twine every few inches. Never tie tightly; stems thicken as they grow.
3. Keep it lightly damp
Mist the coir now and then. Aerial roots attach more readily to a slightly moist surface.
4. Extend or re-shape
As the plant grows, bend the pole to follow it or add the second pole alongside.
